Half Day, Deep Sea Fishing Departing from Simpson Bay

Come aboard our unique fishing boat, Blu Bi U, for a memorable day’s deep-sea fishing off the coast of Sint Maarten—Hunt for pelagics such as Wahoo, Mahi-Mahi, Tuna, and more on the troll. Drop a line to the bottom in search of Grouper, Triggerfish, Yellow-Tail Snapper, and other reef dwellers.

Our charters are all private trips and include an open bar (water, sodas, and beer), light snacks, bait, tackle, and professional-grade fishing equipment. Our professional, experienced, local crew is always on hand to ensure your safety and comfort while you’re aboard our boat. We have a generous share-the-catch policy, so if we hook up, you’ll go home with a nice feed of fresh fish.

Details

The Charter

We have daily trips, typically departing at 8 a.m. and returning at 2 p.m. You’ll generally board the boat at around 8:10 for a quick safety briefing before we set sail to leave the Simpson Bay lagoon via the 8:30 bridge.  It’s only a brief 20-minute cruise before we drop lines and start fishing. The conditions on the day will determine whether we bottom-drop first or troll for the surface predators. If you have a preference either way, we’re more than happy to accommodate.

At the end of the day, we head back to the marina. Within 10 minutes of passing through the Simpson Bay Bridge, we’re back on the dock. If we have fish on board, you can pick the best of the catch, and our crew will clean up the fish and bag it up for transport. Check with your crew on the day if you need recommendations for a local restaurant where you can take your catch and have it cooked for you.

The Fishing

For surface fishing, we generally use 30 or 50-rated traditional reels on a sturdy custom rod. Our reels are typically packed with 80lb test braid, topped with 80lb test mono leader. Terminal tackle is most often a skirted ballyhoo if we’re slow trolling. If we’re high-speed trolling, then we use some heftier double-hooked artificials and trolling weights or a solid ‘bonito’ style lure. We’ll nearly always have a tuna plug trailing way out back for the boat-shy tuna, or other random stragglers.

For bottom fishing, we’ll be fishing at around 130ft deep, using much lighter tackle. Spinning rods loaded with 30-40lb test braid and mono topshot. Occasionally, we’ll head deep to around 600ft+, then it’s electric reels, big lead, and lights, in search of big red snapper and grouper.

The Boat

Our boat, Blu Bi U, is a 38 foot, motor catamaran, powered by two Mercury 150hp outboards. She will accommodate between 1 to 8 anglers and up to a total of 12 passengers in style and comfort. We have a head on-board, along with a small galley. She has a range of over 200 miles and being a twin hull boat, has excellent stability along with a smooth ride in but the roughest conditions. With a beam of about 14 feet, side mounted outriggers and ample rod holders strategically placed around half the deck, we can run maximum lines to increase our chances for a hit.

At the helm, Blu Bi U features a range of modern electronics and equipment to ensure your comfort and safety. We use a Simrad GPS and Fishfinder hooked up to a Maretron GPS antenna and an Airmar 1KW transducer which allows us to view bottom features down to a range of 3,000 feet. We also sport a state of the art music and entertainment system to keep you rocking in between the fishing action. Feel free to bring your own tunes!
